VMI runs strong at Panorama Farms Invite

CHARLOTTESVILLE, Va. – The VMI women's cross country team represented the program well with several personal-best marks Saturday morning at the Panorama Farms Invitational hosted by the University of Virginia in Charlottesville, Virginia.

Results

The Keydets finished in 14th place overall with 408 points on a hilly and fast course at the Panorama Farms site. The Atlantic Coast Conference was well represented at the top with host UVA taking first with 17 points, Virginia Tech second with 70 points and followed by William & Mary in third with 103 points.

Sophomore Jillian Sisk earned a personal record time of 22:04.0, beating her previous best 6K mark by 35 seconds to place 48th overall. Senior Gretal Shank finished second for VMI with a time of 23:46.2, one of her top three marks all-time and a season-best 6K mark.

Junior Nathalie Lavender arrived in 130th place overall in 26:23.6, topping her prior season best by 54 seconds. Freshman Natalia Dias finished the race in 131st place in 26:52, a new PR by 27 seconds.

Newcomer Samantha Layton was the final point scorer for the Keydets as she finished 132nd overall in 27:00.1 in her collegiate debut.

Senior Carolina Fiorillo and sophomore Hayden Talbott also competed for VMI. Talbott achieved a new personal record 6K time of 27:26.7, besting her prior best mark by 31 seconds.

The VMI Keydets will compete next at the Southern Conference Championship on Saturday, November 2, hosted by Furman University in Greenville, South Carolina.
