Women’s Soccer faces Samford at home Friday

LEXINGTON, Va. – The VMI women's soccer team continues Southern Conference action with a home match against Samford. Kickoff is slated for a 3 p.m. start at Patchin Field.

The Keydets (5-7-1, 1-4-0) look to pick up their second conference victory of the season against the Bulldogs. Junior Riley Boucher leads the team in goals with five on the season while sophomore Barrett Callejo is close behind with four.
 
Last Time Out
Despite a 0-0 tie at halftime and most of the second half, the VMI women's soccer team fell to host Mercer in the final moments of the match as the Bears escaped with a 1-0 victory last Sunday afternoon in Macon, Georgia.
 
With just over eight minutes left in regulation, Mercer's Lena Dykes scored her first goal of the season after fielding a rebound from a shot by teammate Karia Karipidis and putting it into the back of the net to lift the Bears to victory at the 81:19 mark of the second half.
 
About Samford (6-6-2, 3-1-1)
The Bulldogs got off to a slow 3-5-1 start to the season in non-conference play but have heated up in Southern Conference action with a 3-1-1 mark thus far. Two of Samford's losses to open the year were to #15 Notre Dame and #13 Auburn in addition to SEC losses to Ole Miss and Georgia.
 
After dropping a 2-0 contest to league leader Western Carolina to open conference play, the Bulldogs rattled off three consecutive wins over Chattanooga, Wofford and The Citadel before tying Furman, 1-1, this past Sunday at home.
 
Ella Simpson leads the team with four goals on the year while Samantha De Luca and Fleming Dean both have three. Whitaker Buchanan leads the team in helpers with four on the season and Brooklyn Miller is close behind with three assists.
