First-place finishes complete VMI Invitational

LEXINGTON, Va. – The VMI men's track and field team completed the 2024 VMI Invitational with multiple first-place finishes on the second day of competition Saturday at the Corps Physical Training Facility.

Sprinter Liam McBride came within one hundredth of a second from tying his school-record mark set Friday in the 60-meter hurdles as he registered a time of 8.05 seconds in Saturday's final round. On Friday, he re-broke his school record time with an 8.04 in the semifinal round.

Freshman pole vaulter Cameron Thomas also placed first in the pole vault with a height of 4.67 meters to win the event. Teammate Jesse Vaughn reached a height of 4.07m for 10th place overall.

Sprinter Nick Brown won the 400 meter dash with a time of 48.66 seconds to win the event. Richard Edwards pursued closely in third in 48.82 seconds, and Xander Topos in fourth in 49.65 seconds.

*Sophomore Ben Hagerich finished second in the 800 meter in 1:55.57
*Freshman shot putter Rafe Clendenin also came in second with a distance of 14.98 meters, a new personal record
*Hunter Davis also recorded a PR in the shot at 14.51m for sixth place
*Freshman Kevin Shank turned in a sixth-place mark of 8:40.24 in the 3,000 meter run
*Christian Larvie placed 10th overall in the high jump at 1.77m
