Personal, school records fall to open VMI Invitational

LEXINGTON, Va. – Highlighted by Liam McBride rebreaking the school's 60-meter hurdles record, the VMI men's track and field team had several individuals earn personal bests to open the 2024 VMI Invitational Friday at the Corps Physical Training Facility.

In the largest meet of the indoor season, McBride rose to the occasion by running a new school record time of 8.04 seconds in the 60-meter hurdles to advance to Saturday's final round. Last week at the VMI Team Challenge, he initially broke the record held by teammate Keyandre Midgett (8.13) by running an 8.12 in the preliminary round and then an 8.08 in the final round.

The men's 4x800 relay team consisting of Ben Hagerich, Xander Topos, Richard Edwards and Kevin Shank placed first overall in the field with a time of 7:59.52 to demonstrate VMI's level of improvement and effort Friday

Top Performances
*In the 300 meter, Nick Brown placed second in 34.45 seconds
*Senior Andrew Granger came in fourth in the weight throw with a distance of 15.84m
*Long jumper Keyandre Midgett placed third in the event with a distance of 7.11m
*In the 60m dash prelims, Jeremiah Wilks came in fifth overall in 7.00 seconds as a new personal record time. He competed in the semifinals of the event but did not advance after placing 22nd in 7.13 seconds
