Wrestling falls to Hofstra to resume dual season

LEXINGTON, Va. – Despite an early 6-3 lead, the VMI wrestling team fell to Hofstra by a 28-6 count Saturday afternoon at Cormack Hall as the Pride rallied to win the final seven bouts of the match.

After VMI's Anthony Burke fell by a hard 8-3 decision to Hofstra's Dylan Acevedo at 125 pounds, Keydets Dyson Dunham (133) and Patrick Jordon (141) earned consecutive wins by decision to give VMI the 6-3 advantage.

Dunham led after the first period by a 9-5 count after registering a quick takedown and moments earned a reversal after he was taken down by Hofstra's Dylan Ryder. Dunham nearly pinned Ryder on the reversl and earned four near-fall points. After an uneventful second period, Dunham logged another reversal in the third period for the deciding 11-6 tally.

At 141 pounds, Jordon achieved a takedown in the opening period of his bout against Hofstra's Alex Turley and boosted his lead in the second by earning an escape and another takedown to enter the third period with a 7-1 lead. Turley earned an escape and takedown in the final period but it was not enough as Jordon's riding time gave him an 8-5 win by decision.

Noah Vigil put up a good fight at 149 pounds but fell by a 6-3 decision.

Up Next
The Keydets face a quick turnaround as they head to Charlotte, North Carolina, to face Queens University Sunday at 1 p.m. at Queens' Curry Arena. VMI also has a neutral site matchup with Sacred Heart immediately after at approximately 2:30 p.m.
