LEXINGTON, Va. - With the 2023 season renewed by the start of Southern Conference play, the VMI women's soccer team fell by a hard fought 2-0 score to the visiting Wofford Terriers Thursday afternoon at Drill Field #2.

Despite nearly matching Wofford's eight shot attempts in the first half with seven of its own, VMI (1-9, 0-1) fell down by two goals as the Terriers (3-5-2, 1-0) scored twice in the opening stanza.

In the 11th minute (10:05), Wofford's Ines Obradovac snuck in the game-winning goal after a scramble in the VMI box which teammate Ellie Gower also got a foot on to be credited with an assist. With under five minutes to play before the half, Wofford's Saachi Bureau penetrated the VMI defense and passed the ball over to Isabella Steiner, who struck it into the upper left corner past a diving Jillian Hall for an insurance goal at the 40:18 mark.
