LEXINGTON, Va. – The VMI Athletics Department announced several staff promotions on Wednesday.
"These moves are a recognition of all of the good work the staff continues to accomplish here at VMI," said Director of Intercollegiate Athletics Jim Miller. "We believe these adjustments to our structure sets us up to best serve the VMI Athletic programs and its cadet-athletes now and in the future."
Emily Fulton – Associate Athletic Director for Internal Operations/Senior Woman Administrator
A VMI graduate '18, Fulton returned to post after stops with the Southern Conference and Texas Christian University (TCU). Initially hired as Assistant to the Athletics Director for Operations, Support and Logistics, Fulton's role quickly expanded to include oversight of the athletics budget and financial operations, as well as military coordination and sport administration duties. Additionally, Fulton will continue to serve as VMI's Senior Woman Administrator.
Phil Marcello – Associate Athletic Director for External Operations
Coming to VMI in the summer of 2022, Marcello was hired as the Assistant Athletic Director for Communications, tasked with leading the strategic communications efforts for VMI's 18 Division I programs. Adding sport oversight duties since his arrival, Marcello will now supervise all external areas - athletic communications, marketing, promotions, broadcasting and corporate sponsorships – to ensure a unified effort in the coverage and storytelling of VMI Athletics and the unique cadet-athlete experience.
Abby Erlemeier – Director of Ticketing and Marketing
Earning her Master's of Sports Leadership degree from VCU, Erlemeier, has been elevated to Director of Ticketing and Marketing. Hired as the Director of Ticketing in June of 2022, Erlemeier will take on a direct role in the planning and execution of VMI Athletics events, aiming to increase attendance and engagement with the VMI Athletics brand.
Nasir Nichols – Director of Business Operations
Nichols, who also earned his Master's of Sport Leadership degree from VCU, came to post in the summer of 2022 and has been serving as the Athletics Business Coordinator. While helping out as a game administrator for a variety of sports, Nichols plays a crucial role overseeing the day-to-day functions of the business office.
Jakub Deptula – Director of Athletic Multimedia
Deptula joined the VMI staff in May of 2022, serving as the Coordinator of Athletic Multimedia. Deptula oversees all VMI Athletics broadcasts, serving as producer or director for over 60 broadcasts each academic year. Additionally, Deptula plays a major role in digital content for social media, creating videos and graphics highlighting VMI Athletics, its teams and cadet-athletes.
