Keydets drop 2-1 contest to visiting Longwood

LEXINGTON, Va. - Despite scoring first for a second consecutive game, the VMI women's soccer team fell by a 2-1 score to visiting Longwood University Thursday afternoon at Drill Field #2 in Lexington.

The Keydets (1-7) jumped ahead quickly in the fourth minute of the game (3:33) when freshman Eva Torres snuck behind the Lancer defenders after a forward pass from Sedona Dancu and beat the keeper to the ball before slotting the ball into the lower right corner of the net for her first career goal at VMI.

Undeterred, the Lancers (2-4-2) struck back in the 37th minute (36:12) when Coryn Silberstein took a cross from Amanda Arnone and put it past VMI keeper Jillian Hall to knot the score at one apiece going into the break.

Early in the second half, Longwood's Peyton Curney scored the game-winning goal off an assist from Arnone in the 49th minute (48:27). Despite several close calls throughout the second half, the Keydets were unable to capitalize as the Lancers escaped Drill Field #2 with the 2-1 victory.
