LEXINGTON, Va. - Competing in a tough and physical battle with visiting Long Island University, the VMI women's soccer team fell by a close 2-1 score on a hot Sunday afternoon on Drill Field #2.

The game marked Senior Day for VMI seniors Morgan Anderson, Jillian Hall, Madison Hornig, Katie Orndorff, Grace Wagner and Hannah White.

VMI (1-6) struck first when a VMI free kick by Delilah Martindale bounced off the head of an LIU defender and into the net for an own goal in the 10th minute (9:47), but the Sharks (3-2-1) tied it up 12 minutes later in the first half (22:03) when Betty Hall converted a penalty kick.

With the game nearing completion locked at 1-1, LIU's Noa Bartels van Bosbeek scored the game-winning goal in the 87th minute (86:05) by taking a cross from Gina Proviano and getting it past VMI keeper Jillian Hall to leave North Post with a road win.

*LIU took 20 shots to VMI's six attempts, including four from both Bartels van Bosbeek and Proviano. Martindale led VMI with two shot attempts for the day
