Keydets fall to Robert Morris in season opener

LEXINGTON, Va. - Despite a competitive second half in which the Keydets matched Robert Morris in core statistical categories, the Keydets fell to the Colonials by a 3-0 score Thursday afternoon at Drill Field #2 in Lexington.
 
How it Happened
*The Colonials (1-0) came out strong in the opening half and took 16 shot attempts at the VMI net, capitalizing in the eighth minute (7:17) on a Taylor Day shot after she received the cross from Elisa Corvalan
*VMI was called for a penalty in its own box which resulted in RMU's Kaoru Hayashi converting the PK in the 41st minute (40:00) for a 2-0 lead going into the break
*The Keydets took nine shots in the second half to RMU's 10 and matched the Colonials' three corner kicks on the other end for scoring opportunities
*RMU forward Lidia Nduka scored a security goal in the 65th minute (64:14) after taking a cross from teammates Haleigh Finale and Malia Kearns
*Colonial goalie Brenna Murray earned the win with four saves on the day while VMI keeper Jillian Hall registered 11 saves in the loss
 
VMI came close to scoring on several occasions, including two from sophomore Riley Boucher that required saves from RMU keeper Brenna Murray. Late in the second half, junior Isabella Bruzonic and freshman Samantha Uschold also took shots that Murray kept out with respective saves.
