Men’s Track Completes App State Open

BOONE, N.C. – In its final tune-up before the Southern Conference Outdoor Championships May 8-9, the VMI men's track and field team finished the inaugural App State Open with top marks Saturday at the Randy Marion Track and Field Facility in Boone, North Carolina.
 
Highlights
*Nick Brown won the 200m title in 21.47 seconds
*Keyandre Midgett also placed first in the long jump at 7.29 meters followed by Isaiah Blount's fourth-place distance of 6.18 meters. Charles Larvie (6th, 6.08m) and Kevin Linko (8th, 5.93m) also participated
*Xander Topos logged second in the 100m hurdles in 15.18 seconds followed by Stephen Munson in seventh in 16.43 seconds. Kevin Linko (8th, 16.70) and Isaiah Blount (9th, 17.18) also competed
*In the discus, Herbert Brooks came in third at 45.70 meters, and senior Andrew Granger placed 10th at 37.78 meters
*Craig Swain finished third in the 3000m steeple with a time of 10:28.14
*In the high jump, Charles Male came in third with a height of 1.83 meters
*Ben Hagerich placed fourth in the 800m in 1:58.44 followed by Stephen Kelley in ninth in 2:02.69
*Topos also competed in the 400m hurdles and placed fifth in 55.93
*In the triple jump, Robert Jones logged a fifth-place distance of 12.73 meters
*Thrower Hunter Davis achieved sixth in the shot put at 13.62m
*Also competing in the 100m, Nick Brown came in sixth in 10.73 seconds followed by Liam McBride in seventh at 10.95 seconds. Keyandre Midgett attained and eighth-place mark of 10.96 seconds
*Andrew Hirneisen placed seventh in the 1500m in 4:11.76
*In the pole vault, Kevin Linko placed sixth overall at 4.41m and Isaiah Blount finished seventh at 4.26m
*Brian Tavenner rounded out the VMI men's competition with an eighth-place time of 16:18.36 in the 5000 meter. Zach Diller placed 10th in 16:39, and Patrick Kiernan logged 12th in 16:45.
