VMI Heads to Wagner for Midweek League Contest

LEXINGTON, Va. – The VMI lacrosse team looks to battle back from a close loss over the weekend as the Keydets travel to Staten Island, New York for a MAAC battle with the Seahawks Wednesday at 2 p.m. at Hameline Field.

Ahead 5-4 at the half and going into the final quarter, the VMI lacrosse team fell by a close 8-6 score to visiting league leader Manhattan College Saturday afternoon at Drill Field #2.
The Keydets (5-7, 2-4) led for much of the game as they went ahead 2-1 after one period and were ahead 5-4 at the break. Following a scoreless third period for both squads, the Jaspers (8-3, 5-1) caught fire and found its offense in the final 15 minutes to score four goals. Manhattan also clamped down on the defensive end to allow just one VMI goals in that span to escape Lexington with a MAAC victory on the road.
 
About the Seahawks (2-9, 1-5)
Wagner looks to snap a four-game losing streak to MAAC opponents as the Seahawks are coming off a tough 13-9 loss to Sacred Heart, a game in which the Pioneers came from behind to earn the win on Wagner's home turf.
 
Benjamin Stewart leads the team in goals with 20 on the season as well as in points with 22 for the year. Jack Brady ranks second on the squad with 15 - including three against Sacred Heart last week - and CJ Sweitzer is third with 10. Ethan Sieb plays a key role in passing the ball around and leads Wagner with eight assists with three games left in the regular season.
 
In the cage, goalie Danny Brady has played all but 17 minutes on the year and owns a 12.67 goals-against average to go with 151 saves.
