Track Teams Resume Competition at High Point

LEXINGTON, Va. – After an additional two weeks of training and conditioning following the 2023 outdoor season opener in Myrtle Beach, the VMI track and field teams resume competition this Friday and Saturday, March 31-April 1, at the VertKlasse Meeting hosted by High Point University in High Point, North Carolina.

The women's team excelled two weeks ago at the Shamrock Invitational hosted by the City of Myrtle Beach as the 4x400 relay squad of Heaven Hall, SeMore Green, Shea Hart and Eleyah Armstrong placed seventh overall in 4:08.35.
 
Jenna Kirkland also placed high in eighth overall in the discus with a distance of 36.90 meters.
 
The VMI men placed fifth as a team with 58 points led by Xander Topos in the 400 meter as he crossed the finish line in first place in 54.04 seconds, a new PR.
 
Sprinter Nick Brown also arrived in first in the 200 meter in 21.82 seconds, also a new personal record. D. Alex Fiorillo also shined by finishing third in the 3000 meter in 8:43.55. Freshman Ben Hagerich arrived in sixth in the race in 9:00.02.

"This meet is traditionally very well-run and very competitive. This year's meet has expanded to over 1750 athletes, including SoCon schools ETSU and UNCG. We are always excited to have the opportunity to compete, especially at a large meet which offers tough competition in every event."
