LEXINGTON, Va.
 - Staying home for Spring Furlough, the VMI lacrosse team prepared well for its first MAAC home game since rejoining the league as the Keydets earned a hard-fought 14-10 victory over Siena College Saturday afternoon at Drill Field #2.

With the win, VMI (4-4, 1-1) logged its first win over the Saints (3-3, 1-1) since the 2008 season after Siena had claimed the previous five outings. The Keydets last competed in the MAAC from 2003-13 as the schools faced each other regularly as conference members.

The Keydets jumped out to a 6-2 lead after the first quarter and matched Siena's four goals in the second to go into halftime with a 10-6 advantage. Siena outscored VMI 3-1 in the third period to make a rally but VMI countered with its own 3-1 goal effort in the fourth period to finish strong and come out with the conference victory, the first MAAC win under head coach James Purpura's tenure.

VMI Head Coach James Purpura
"I'm just incredibly proud of our guys for finding a way to win. It was nice to get back home and play in front of our fans who brought a lot of energy today. It wasn't perfect and there is a lot for us to continue to improve on, but I'm just happy for the guys to be rewarded for their effort. We did a great job at the faceoff X generating possessions. Offensively, we were led by Hartley Jordan who was outstanding for us today. We shared the ball and capitalized on our opportunities. I thought we shot the ball well. We also had a solid day with our extra man earning us three goals. Defensively, we played some solid 6v6 defense and got some big saves from Adam Norris. They did a good job of getting the ball vertical in the clear and were rewarded by having some transition opportunities that resulted in two pole goals. Certainly we will look at the tape and make corrections, but I'm excited to get back to work with this group."
