Lacrosse Hosts Hampton Tuesday Afternoon

LEXINGTON, Va. – The VMI lacrosse team will face Hampton Tuesday afternoon at 4 p.m. at Drill Field #2 on North Post.
 
The Keydets (2-1) are coming off a 17-11 loss at the hands of High Point this past Friday night at home. After a high-scoring first quarter in which the Keydets trailed 8-5, VMI matched point-for-point in the second and third quarters but ran out of gas in the final period as the Panthers logged three more goals while holding VMI scoreless.
 
Luke Rusterucci, Luke Mryncza and Hartley Jordan led the Keydets with two goals apiece on the night while five others earned solo goals in the hard-fought loss.
 
About the Pirates (0-1)
Hampton is coming off a 17-10 loss at home Sunday to Queens University, which VMI defeated in double overtime back on February 10. A week before, the Pirates earned a 13-10 win over D-III Guilford College in an exhibition game on the road.
 
Against Queens, Hampton was led by junior attack Ellison Burt-Murray, who registered five goals on 12 shot attempts. Xavier Salley logged two goals on just three shots, while Darius Stanley, Miles Fawcett and Kai Talley each scored one goal.
 
Graduate student goalie Paxtin Powell, recorded 11 saves in 55 minutes of play during the loss.
