VMI Rifle Earns Program-Best Score

LEXINGTON, Va. – Hosting an NCAA Qualifier and shooting against one of the premier rifle programs in the country in West Virginia University, the VMI mixed rifle team scored an all-time program record score of 4564 points Saturday at the VMI Rifle Range at Kilbourne Hall.

Team Standings
The Mountaineers won the dual with 4741 points, but the Keydets earned their all-time mark led by Laini Morgan's personal-best air rifle score of 582. The score earns a qualifying mark for the Junior Olympic National Championship in Colorado Springs this April.
 
Fellow VMI mixed rifle shooter Ryan Harlow registered a personal-best air rifle tally of 584, which also earns a qualifying mark to the national event in Colorado Springs alongside Morgan.
 
West Virginia was led by Olympic silver medalist Mary Tucker, who shot a VMI range record with a perfect 600 score (58 x 10x) in the air rifle.
 
Christopher Hicks led the team in the smallbore with an eighth-place mark of 572 and was followed by Harlow's 571. Michael Annesi shot a 551 for the event and Maxine Gray-Barth also scored team points in the smallbore with her 548 tally.
 
Hicks also led VMI in the air rifle placing eighth overall with a 586 and Harlow pursued closely with a 584.
 
The VMI women were led by Morgan and Katie Grochalski in the air rifle as both recorded a 582 for the event.
 
Up Next
The Keydets will compete at the SoCon Rifle Championships set for March 4-5 hosted by The Citadel in Charleston, South Carolina.
