VMI Rifle breaks school records at Navy match

ANNAPOLIS, Md. – The VMI rifle teams are off to a good start to the 2026-27 season as both the mixed team and women's team broke their respective school records in both their aggregate scores and smallbore marks Saturday in a match against nationally ranked Navy and TCU at the Naval Academy in Annapolis, Maryland.

Alex Pohlman, in his junior year, placed eighth for the day in smallbore and 14th in the air rifle, leading the mixed team with an aggregate score of 1169. Senior Darian Tweedell led the day for the women's team ranking 11th in air rifle and 19th in smallbore, with an aggregate score of 1162.
 
The two VMI teams have gained a strong cohort of freshman with eight rats jockeying for their place in the rankings.
