VMI Rifle Opens 2026-27 Season Against Navy and TCU

LEXINGTON, Va. – The VMI rifle program begins the 2026-27 campaign Saturday, traveling to Annapolis, Maryland, for a triangular match against Navy and TCU at the Bancroft Hall Rifle Range.

Competition is scheduled for 9 a.m., marking the first test of the season for a Keydet squad that features a blend of experienced returners and four freshmen entering their first collegiate season.

VMI returns a veteran core led by seniors Reece Guillet, Cody Jenkins, Kyle Kemp, Zachary Mauriello and Darian Tweedell, along with juniors Alexander Pohlman and Elizabeth Stann. The four freshmen will look to make an immediate impact as they begin their collegiate careers.

The Keydets enter the season looking to build on a strong 2025-26 campaign that included several individual accomplishments and continued team progress. Pohlman made program history last season when he became the first VMI shooter to receive an invitation to the NCAA Championships after firing a program-record 587 in smallbore at the NCAA Qualifier. He also captured the Virginia State air rifle title, while Tweedell earned a medal at the Virginia State Qualifiers.

As a team, VMI recorded a season-best 4605 aggregate in a victory over The Citadel and finished fourth at the Southern Conference Championships.

Saturday's season opener will provide an immediate challenge, as the Keydets face two nationally established programs. Navy and TCU will also meet VMI in the triangular competition, with Navy serving as the host. The match marks the fifth consecutive year VMI has opened the season by competing against Navy and TCU.

With a veteran group returning alongside four newcomers, the Keydets will look to establish momentum from the opening match and begin building toward another competitive season.
