Track and Field kicks off season with Intrasquad Meet

LEXINGTON, Va. – The VMI track and field teams got off to a great start to the season by earning multiple personal best times and distances Saturday at the VMI Intrasquad Meet held at the Corps Physical Training Facility.

The red team won with 39 total points and the black team finished close behind with 36.

"The women had a close battle during our intrasquad meet today. The difference from the men's meet was one team would win, the other team would finish second and third or win in the next event to keep the meet close."

Meet Highlights
*Jenna Kirkland (black team) won the shot put with a throw of 10.93m
*The red team countered with Morgan Fraser clearing a height of 1.60m in the high jump for the win
*Freshman Olivia Hurd (red team) won the 800m in 2:29.14, then fellow freshman Jillian Sisk led the black team in the mile run with a winning effort in 5:23.87
*Eleyah Armstrong (red) led the way in the 60m with a time of 7.78 seconds
*Kymia Bridgett (black team) won the triple jump with a distance of 11.36m
*Diamond Baker placed second in the shot put and Grace Harlow (both red) finished close behind in third
*Alina LaForest and Hayden Talbot paced the black team to second- and third-place finishes in the 800m, and Gretal Shank and Nathalie Lavender (both red) placed second and third in the mile run, respectively
