VMI falls to Chattanooga in SoCon road match

CHATTANOOGA, Tenn. – Searching for its first conference road win of the season, the VMI women's soccer team (2-13-0, 1-5-0) came up short as the host Mocs of Chattanooga earned a hard-fought 2-0 victory over the Keydets Sunday afternoon at Max Finley Stadium in Chattanooga, Tennessee.
 
The Mocs (9-4-1, 3-2-1) struck once in each half of play and earned the game-winning goal in the 31st minute (30:40) when Birna Johannsdottir struck the ball into the VMI net off an assist by Nicole Solete.
 
Chattanooga would go on to earn an insurance goal with just over 10 minutes left in regulation (79:34) when Clarissa Salinas tapped the ball into the low left corner of the net past a diving Jillian Hall for the game's final score.
 
Key Stats
*UTC finished with 19 shots on the day, including nine on frame. Mackenzie Smith led the Mocs with six and five from Johannsdottir
*The Keydets completed the match with three shots, one each by Delilah Martindale, Hannah White and Eva Torres
*VMI goalie Jillian Hall logged seven saves in the loss, while UTC's Caroline Ekern logged two saves in a complete match
