Furman escapes with 3-1 win over VMI at Patchin Field

LEXINGTON, Va.
– Going into halftime tied at 1-1, the VMI women's soccer team surrendered two goals in the final 15 minutes as the visiting Paladins of Furman University escaped Patchin Field with a 3-1 victory Thursday afternoon.
 
VMI (2-14, 1-6) tied the game at 1-1 with just a few minutes before the break when sophomore Riley Boucher took a pass from Cadee Hegarty and shot it into the upper left corner of the net, but Furman (6-4-5, 2-1-4) earned the game-winning goal at the 76:25 mark when Maddie Massie headed the ball in from Camryn Bolick after a brief scramble deep in the VMI goalbox.
 
Furman's Noemi Casique logged her second goal of the game just a minute later (77:25) to increase the margin as an insurance goal to give Furman its second SoCon victory of the year.
 
Key Stats
*Three Keydets earned a pair of shot attempts on the day including Madison Hornig, Lauren Fyfe, Barrett Callejo and Boucher. Freshman Eva Torres added another shot
*Casique led the Paladins with five shots during the contest and Valentina Mosquera was close behind with four. Furman finished the game with 22 shot attempts and tallied nine corner kick opportunities to one for VMI
*VMI goalie Jillian Hall ended the match with six saves while Furman keeper Addison Corn logged three
