Cross Country teams set eyes on Southern Conference Championship

LEXINGTON, Va. – After months of preparation and improvement at every race, the VMI cross country teams look for a strong showing at the 2023 Southern Conference Cross Country Championship set for Friday morning at the Ivey M. Redmon Sports Complex in Kernersville, North Carolina.

The meet is hosted by nearby UNC Greensboro. The women's 5K race will start at 10 a.m. and the men's 8K will occur shortly after at approximately 10:45 a.m.

The VMI women will be led by juniors Gretal Shank and Caroline Fiorillo while freshmen Jillian Sisk, Olivia Hurd, Evelyn Anderson and Hayden Talbott will continue to provide top scoring marks for the Keydets and improved personal records in the 5K.

The men's team will take the course at 10:45 led by seniors Stephen Kelley, Andrew Hirneisen and Trent Whittaker. Freshmen Kevin Shank and Patrick Lowry have been proven leaders all season long and look to continue their progression for a strong finish Friday morning in the 8K course.
