VMI falls to Catamounts in SoCon road battle

CULLOWHEE, N.C. – Looking for its first SoCon road victory of the season, the VMI women's soccer team fell by a 4-0 score to host Western Carolina on an overcast Sunday afternoon at the Catamount Athletic Complex in Cullowhee, North Carolina.
 
The Catamounts (10-3-3, 7-1) pulled ahead early in the match by scoring in the seventh minute (6:02) when Sofia Goclowski took a cross from Katelyn Galbraith and shot it into the VMI for the game-winning goal.
 
Western's Alexis DeMarco scored again shortly after in the 12th minute (11:47) as she slipped behind the VMI defense and slotted a shot into the lower right corner for an early 2-0 advantage.
 
The Catamounts would go on to score two insurance goals in the second half for the game's final 4-0 tally.
 
Key Stats
*WCU controlled possession for much of the contest leading to 20 shot attempts for the day, including 10 on frame. The Catamounts also had nine corner kick opportunities throughout the match
*VMI keeper Jillian Hall earned five saves in 66 minutes of play before she was replaced by junior Whitney Tracy in the second half. Tracy would earn one save in her time at goal
*Audrey Davis led VMI with two shots during the game while Lauren Fyfe and Courtney Smith each had one. The DeMarco sisters combined for eight shot attempts to lead Western Carolina
