Keydets Drop Hard-Fought Battle to Chattanooga

LEXINGTON, Va. - Battling both poor weather conditions and a Chattanooga team coming in with two league wins, the VMI women's soccer team fell in a hard-fought 1-0 battle with the Mocs Friday afternoon at Patchin Field.

How it happened
* Chattanooga scored in the 22nd minute of the match (21:37) when Clarissa Salinas took a forward pass from Caroline Richvalsky and put the ball into the lower right corner of the net in what proved to be the game-winning goal.
 
* The Mocs won the possession battle throughout the match and earned 18 shot attempts during the contest, including four from Mackenzie Smith and three from Birna Johannsdottir.
 
* Daniela Monastero came close to scoring for the Keydets as she took a free kick outside the Chattanooga box and her shot sailed just high of the crossbar.
 
* VMI keeper Jillian Hall earned six saves throughout the match.

Next Time
The Keydets close a five-game homestand Sunday when they face league foe Samford at 1 p.m. Due to rainy weather conditions brought on by Hurricane Ian this weekend, the location for Sunday's match may be played on Drill Field #2 on North Post instead of Patchin Field.
