Keydets End Homestand in Loss to Samford

LEXINGTON, Va. - After moving to Drill Field #2 due to the weather conditions, the VMI women's soccer team battled hard but fell by a 5-0 score to visiting Samford University to end a five-game homestand Sunday afternoon in Lexington.
 
How it Happened
  • The Bulldogs got on the board early in the match as Ella Simpson scored off an assist from Whitaker Buchanan for the game-winning goal at the 6:26 mark.
  • Samford's Layton Glisson scored twice in the game, once at the 22:32 mark of the first half and added another in the second half at the 74:45 mark. She finished with six shot attempts throughout the match.
  • Kaitlyn Maynard of Samford logged a goal for the visitors at the 36:50 mark off an assist from Taylor Yount.
  • VMI keeper Jillian Hall finished the game with eight saves for the afternoon.
  • VMI sophomore Isabella Bruzonic nearly put a goal in for VMI as she took a shot late in the second half to the upper left corner of the net that required a diving save by the Samford keeper.
