Keydets battle USC Upstate to 1-1 Tie

LEXINGTON, Va. – The VMI women's soccer team used a goal by redshirt freshman Sedona Dancu to earn a hard-fought 1-1 tie Saturday afternoon against visiting USC Upstate in non-conference action at Patchin Field.
 
How it happened
*Following a save, Dancu recovered the rebound at the top corner of the box and fired in her goal at 19:08 of the first half.
*VMI held the 1-0 edge until the 57th minute when Alaina McKnight headed in a corner kick from Sydney Thomas.
*Both teams had chances for the win in the closing minutes; Keydet junior keeper Jillian Hall made one of her three saves with nine minutes remaining on a 1-on-1 opportunity.
 
Inside the numbers
*VMI fired eight shots, including four on net.
*VMI earned its second-straight tie after playing LIU to a 2-2 tie Saturday.
 
Next Time
VMI starts Southern Conference play next weekend with UNCG Friday at 4 p.m. at Patchin Field before stepping out of league play for the final time to face South Carolina State Sunday at 1 p.m. in Lexington.
