RALEIGH, N.C. – The VMI men's track and field team finished competition at the 2022 Raleigh Relays Saturday at NC State's Paul Derr Track with excellent marks to build off going forward.
The VMI B group finished in 15th overall with an impressive time of 3:20.25 to begin the outdoor season.
Freshman
Xander Topos completed the 400m hurdles with a 19th-place time of 57.45 seconds.
Several Keydets performed well in the 200 meter, including senior
Jordin Poindexter, who finished in 28th place overall in 21.82 seconds just ahead of freshman
Jeremiah Wilks' time of 22.10 seconds in 45h place.
Nick Brown and
Bret Trahan also competed in the event for VMI.
In the long jump, freshman
Charles Male finished in 33rd with a distance of 6.39 meters, and sophomore
Andrew Granger competed in the hammer throw with a distance of 49.12 meters, a SoCon Top 5 mark.
Trent Whittaker ran the 800 meter and finished in 75th place in 1:54.08, which is also presently a SoCon Top 5 time.
VMI Director of Track and Field and Cross Country Zack Scott:
"We had another round of Southern Conference Top 5 performances in the hammer throw, 200m, 800m and B Team 4 x 400m to start our outdoor season. The men now have a starting point to prepare for our next meet at the Colonial Relays in Williamsburg, Virginia."
