Keydets Return Home to Face Bellarmine Saturday

LEXINGTON, Va. – After three straight games on the road, the VMI lacrosse team returns home to face Bellarmine University Saturday at noon at Drill Field No. 2.
 
The Keydets (2-5) are coming off an 11-6 defeat at the hands of Monmouth University this past Tuesday in VMI's final midweek game of the season.

Junior Scout Ripley continues to lead the squad with 20 points on the season with 18 goals and two assists while Hartley Jordan is right behind with 13 goals and six assists for a combined 19 points. Freshman Luke Rusterucci has 17 points on eight goals and nine assists as a key offensive distributor. Senior Josh Bass also has double-digit points with 10 on six goals and four assists this year.
 
Goalie Jack Liselli has seen the most time in the cage this season with 346 minutes and owns a 10.9 goals-against average and 72 saves (.533 save percentage).
 
About the Bellarmine Knights (1-8)
 
Better than their record indicates, the Knights – now a member of the Atlantic Sun Conference - have lost eight games this season to the likes of Michigan, North Carolina, Marquette (3 OT), High Point and Jacksonville. The Keydets and Knights have a mutual win over Hampton, which Bellarmine defeated by a 22-3 score at home on Feb. 26.
 
Kyle Playsted leads the Bellarmine attack with 21 points on the season on nine goals to go with a team-high 12 assists. Christian Della Rocco has logged 16 points on nine goals and seven assists, while Benjamin Hubbs and Jesse Roth both lead the team in goals with 10 in 2022. Hubbs leads the team in shot attempts with 36 thus far and Benny O'Rourk is close behind with 34.
 
Jon Robbins is the core defender with 30 caused turnovers through nine games while also leading the team in groundballs with 32.
 
At goalie, JC Higginbotham leads the team in minutes in the cage with 346 for the year and Dante Batista ranks second with 183 minutes played. Batista (0-2) owns an 11.78 goals-against average and 40 saves, while Higginbotham (1-6) has a 13.49 GAA to go with 66 saves.
