Lacrosse to Face St. Bonaventure at Home Saturday

LEXINGTON, Va. – After dispatching Hampton on the road Monday, the VMI lacrosse team looks to continue its momentum as the Keydets play host to St. Bonaventure Saturday at noon at Drill Field No. 2.

The VMI (1-2, 0-0) attack is led by junior Scout Ripley, who leads the team with nine goals and one assist on the season. Freshman Luke Rusterucci's four goals and five assists for the year ranks second on the team for a combined nine points, and junior Hartley Jordan has eight total points for the season after scoring four goals and three assists between the Manhattan and Hampton games. Rusterucci combined for nine points over the last two games, including seven (three goals, four assists) at Hampton on Monday night.
 
Senior Josh Bass has scored five goals to go with two assists for the year, and Michael Santos has logged five goals on the season.
 
Defensively, freshman James Boynewicz leads the team with seven caused turnovers and 11 groundballs and Kyle Webster has totaled four caused turnovers to go with eight groundballs. Alex Baber and Tim Lindenbaum each have three caused turnovers this season.
 
Sophomore Jack Liselli (103 minutes) and freshman Damian Levin (76 minutes) have split time in the cage over the team's three matches. Levin has allowed 14 goals and made 10 saves for a 1-1 personal record, while Liselli has allowed 20 goals and made 28 saves for a 0-1 personal record.
 
About the Bonnies (1-1)
St. Bonaventure owns a 1-1 team record after opening the season with a close 12-11 loss at Saint Joseph's before earning a hard-fought 13-12 win over Bellarmine on Tuesday afternoon at home. Their match at Binghamton slated for last Saturday was canceled due to unplayable field condition in Binghamton, New York. Last year, the Bonnies had the most wins in their program's history and advanced to the MAAC semifinals.
 
Jackson Rose leads the team with seven goals on the season while Jake Rosa, Sean Westley and Austin Blumbergs have each been credited with four goals through the two games played. Rosa, last season's MAAC Offensive Player of the Year as a sophomore, has tallied five assists for the year, and Westley has logged four assists. Blumbergs leads the team with 15 shot attempts with Rosa trailing closely at 13.
 
Brady Wijbrandts leads the team's defensive efforts with three caused turnovers and five groundball pickups over two matches. The lead faceoff specialist is Trent Grainger, who has won 16 of 40 faceoffs thus far.
 
Goalie Brett Dobson, a 2021 All-MAAC honoree and a member of the Canadian national team, owns a 1-1 personal mark on 24 goals allowed to go with 41 saves. He owns a 12.00 goals-against average and .631 save percentage.
