LEXINGTON, Va. – The VMI wrestling team won four matches Friday evening, but Davidson College came away with a 23-12 victory in a Southern Conference contest from Cormack Hall. The programs two seniors,
Robbie Adelstein and
Luke Nicksic, were honored before the action started.
Junior Cam Chicella started the match off for VMI with a 7-1 win at 125 pounds. Davidson captured the next four matches to open a 17-3 edge, including wins by pin and technical fall.
Freddy Junko fell just 8-5 at 141 and
Seth Fillers lost 4-2 at 157.
Blake Showers defeated Jaden Hardrick at 165 7-4 after the match was tied at 4-4 in the third period and
Jon Hoover had a third period takedown to win 3-1 at 174.
Tyler Mousaw hung on for a 9-6 win at 197 to move his record on the season to 11-6. The sophomore is ranked #30 this week in Division I ratings percentage index (RPI) in his weight class.
Josh Evans had a pair of takedowns but fell 8-4 at 285.
VMI travels to Chattanooga for another conference match Sunday at 1 p.m.
