BOSTON, Mass. – VMI senior
Bridger Thurston was named the America East Male Diver of the Week for the week of December 6.
The Richmond, Va. native placed second in the 1 meter diving event at the Loyola Invitational Friday with a score of 237.15. He followed up Saturday by placing second in the 3M, scoring 232.35 points.
"Bridger has put in the persistent work to learn the more complex twisting and flipping dives," said VMI diving coach
COL Tom Timmes. "His dive list on the 3M board includes the hardest done at VMI in the last decade."
Thurston is no stranger to accolades from the conference office, as he was the AE Rookie Diver of the Year in 2019-20 and has earned the Diver of the Week award twice. He was also a first-team all-state diver as a sophomore.
"Being named Diver of the Week in the America East is not a small feat and I am really proud of Bridger," said head coach
Scott Thacker. "The America East is full of talented divers, and this award is a great testament to the work Bridger, Coach Timmes and our entire dive squad have been putting in on the boards this season."
