Late Goal Lifts Wofford over VMI

Box Score

LEXINGTON, Va. -  A Wofford goal with under two minutes left to play in the game lifted the Terriers to a 2-1 victory over the VMI women's soccer team Friday afternoon at Patchin Field.

As the VMI defenders and Wofford attackers converged on the VMI goal box after a long Terrier forward pass, the ball slipped underneath VMI keeper Whitney Tracy's clearing attempt and Wofford's Isabella Steiner was able to sneak behind the defensive line to score the game-winning goal at the 88:39 mark.

Game Summary
*After a scoreless first half between the schools, VMI freshman forward Riley Boucher put the Keydets on the board first early in the second half when she struck a ball into the upper right corner of the Wofford net after a forward pass from Anissa Cheikh. The goal marked  Boucher's fourth of the season, second-most on the team.
*Ten minutes later at the 61:27 mark, Wofford's Leanna Guion took a forward pass from Alexis Mapplebeck and got behind the VMI defense to sneak a shot past VMI keeper Jillian Hall for the game-tying goal.
*The teams traded shots before Steiner registered the game-winning goal in the final minutes.
