LEXINGTON, Va. - Following a scoreless first half between the VMI women's soccer team and visiting Furman University, the Paladins scored four goals in the second half to overcome the Keydets, 4-0, Sunday afternoon at a rainy Patchin Field.

The Paladins were aided by extra-man scoring opportunities for much of the second half after VMI sophomore Lauren Fyfe was assessed a red card following a physical confrontation with Furman's Shania Diaz. Diaz was only given a yellow card after the dispute and was allowed to remain on the field, giving Furman 11 players to VMI's 10 for nearly 40 minutes of the latter 45 minutes of play.

Game Summary
*Furman put in its first goal just minutes after the incident when Valentina Mosquera rebounded an Ashlyn Goila shot that bounced off the crossbar and put the ball into the left corner of the VMI net.
*Helen Gutierrez of Furman knocked in the second goal moments later following a scramble in the box after a Paladin corner kick attempt.
*The Paladins would go on to score two more insurance goals late in the game as Camryn Bolick and Julia Nicholas were credited with goals.
*VMI goalie Jillian Hall earned eight saves throughout the contest.
*VMI freshman Riley Boucher logged three shot attempts in the game, including a shot on goal in the opening half that resulted in a save from Furman keeper Nora Sampson. Senior Abi Dent also registered a shot on goal that sailed into Sampson's hands.
