Keydets Open Winter Relays with Successful Marks

LEXINGTON, Va. – In its third home meet of the indoor season, the VMI track and field teams opened the VMI Winter Relays with much success Friday evening at the Corps Physical Training Facility.

Freshman Gretal Shank highlighted the first day by placing fifth overall in the 1000 meter in 3:06.29.

The 4x800 relay team of Naomi Hahn, Rachael Dickenson, Emily Wells and Alyssa Ingerson placed seventh overall in 10:48.96.

Senior Stephanie Jones led the way in the weight throw with a seventh-place distance of 14.93 meters, a new personal-best mark.

"We had another meet with personal best performances throughout the team with a field of 48 schools," said VMI Director of Track and Field and Cross Country Zack Scott. "Yvonnia Perrello completed her first pentathlon today in eighth place to begin her career as a multi-event athlete."

Perrello finished the day with 1693 points after all five events of the pentathlon. She earned a mark of 11.83 seconds in the 60m hurdles and a distance of 10.0 meters in the shot put. She also tallied a distance of 4.89 in the long jump and a time of 3:16.66 in the 800-meter run to finish the multi-event.

The Keydets return to action Saturday morning with Day Two of the VMI Winter Relays at the CPTF.
