Three Keydets Compete at NC A&T Final Chance Meet

GREENSBORO, N.C. – Three members of the VMI men's track and field team competed at the North Carolina A&T Last Chance Meet on Sunday looking for an NCAA Regional invite.

Named the Southern Conference's Most Outstanding Track Performer last week after medaling in four events, junior sprinter Jordin Poindexter competed in the 100 meter dash and finished with a time of 10.76 in the prelims.

Jonathan Gray and Johnnie Walker finished the 400 meter within five-tenths of a second from each other for 14th and 15th place. Gray posted a 49.42 personal record time in the event, with Walker finishing in 49.47. Gray also competed in the 200 (22.96) to finish 27th.

After yesterday's record-breaking performance for Gavin Jenkins in the 3000 steeple, he sits in 14th in the NCAA East Region. The top 48 athletes in each event will earn an invite to the regional preliminary rounds of the NCAA championship.

The 2021 NCAA DI men and women's outdoor track and field selections will be announced this Thursday. Regional preliminary rounds will take place May 26-29 in Jacksonville, FL, with the championships set for June 9-12 in Eugene, Oregon.
