Herres, Snyder Named SoCon Football Athletes of the Month

SPARTANBURG, S.C. – Announced earlier today as Stats Perform FCS All-Americans, junior wide receiver Jakob Herres and sophomore linebacker Stone Snyder were named this afternoon the Southern Conference Football Athletes of the Month for the month of April.
 
Herres had more than 100 receiving yards in all three April contests, totaling 395 yards and a pair of touchdowns on 32 grabs. The Easton, Pennsylvania native had eight catches for 101 yards against ETSU on April 3 and had 11 catches for 123 yards and a score in a win over The Citadel on April 17, helping VMI to its first SoCon title since 1977. Against #1 James Madison in VMI's first ever FCS playoffs appearance, he caught 13 passes for 171 yards and a touchdown in the close 31-24 loss. Following the season, he was named a Walter Payton Award finalist and was the recipient of the top offensive end player in Division I football in the state of Virginia by the Touchdown Club of Richmond.

Snyder totaled 45 tackles in three April contests (15.0 per game), including 15 solo stops during the month. He had 4.5 tackles for 26 yards, including 4.0 sacks for 25 yards lost for VMI's opponents. The Richmond, Virginia, native had 12 tackles and a pair of sacks against ETSU on April 3 and followed up with a career-high 21 tackles against The Citadel on April 17 to help VMI retain the Silver Shako and first SoCon title in 43 years, garnering SoCon Defensive Player of the Week honors. The sophomore had 12 stops against #1 James Madison in VMI's playoff game, and was recently announced as one of three finalists for the FCS specialty Buck Buchanan Award for the top defensive player in the country.
