LEXINGTON, Va. – The VMI wrestling team honored its 2020-21 award winners Thursday night at the annual awards banquet. Four Keydets were recognized.

"This group will always share something special together," said head coach Jim Gibson. "They navigated and persevered through an unprecedented situation, no matter what happened before or happens after they will forever be connected to the 2020-2021 season.  As with any season we had set backs, as well as, achievements alike, but the most important thing is we all took part in some sort of personal growth this year and I couldn't be more proud of the way our young men handled things."

"We return all but one starter, most of them being underclassmen.  I think we have a bright few years ahead of us, but nothing is automatic.  I have confidence that our group will live the right lifestyle and make a commitment over the next six months to put us in the best situation come November." 

Freshman of the Year: Tyler Mousaw
Presented to the freshman that performed the best throughout the season.
 
Lifestyle Achievement Award: Zach Brown
Presented to the cadet-athlete that goes above and beyond in representing VMI Wrestling in the key areas of Academics, Athletics, and Social Life.
 
Most Improved Wrestler: Josh Yost
This award is given to the wrestler that shows the most improvement from year to year or throughout a single season.
 
Coach's Award: Cliff Conway
This award exemplifies what a coach looks for in an individual: Work Ethic, Dedication, Leadership, and a Positive Attitude.
 
Most Outstanding Wrestler: Tyler Mousaw
This award is given in honor of the wrestler who performs the best throughout the regular season, and carries that success into the post season.
