After spending the last two duals on the road, the Keydets return to Cormack Hall for a pair of matchups. VMI has hit a dry spell on the mat, being shut out in back-to-back duals against powerful programs. However, the last meeting at The Institute resulted in a near-perfect outing: a 59-0 win over Emory & Henry in the home opener.
A challenging weekend against Edinboro left VMI without a match win. However, a pair of Keydets held their ground, including 141-pounder
Phoenix Alyea, who held his opponent to a 7-2 decision, right before 157-pounder
Ray Cmil was narrowly defeated, 4-2.
Mercyhurst will face Davis & Elkins on Friday as its first dual of the season before tangling with VMI. The Lakers most recently competed in the Army Open. The Duke Blue Devils are 3-2 after defeating Sacred Heart, Hofstra, and Morgan State, as well as earning seven team points in a loss against No. 8 Lehigh.
Fresh and familiar series histories highlight the tri-meet. This will be the first matchup between Mercyhurst and VMI. On the other hand, the Blue Devils and Keydets have squared off 45 times, with last season ending in a 22-12 win for Duke. The last time VMI hosted this ACC opponent was in 2022, which resulted in a 28-9 triumph.
