VMI is coming off a shortened season that played only four games due to Covid-19 but used the time to progress and maintain a successful program.

The Keydets return senior Ryan Perouty, who looks to continue his point streak of 30 consecutive games with at least one point tallied, good for 22nd in the NCAA. Perouty had a team-high nine goals and five assists in the four games last season and was named the Southern Conference Offensive Player of the Week following a near-upset match at Top 20 Lehigh.

Seniors Jon Fant and Eric Lane will also return this season and were announced as team captains. Fant led the team in caused turnovers, while adding five goals and four assists. Lane led the team in groundballs last season to go with four caused turnovers, fourth most on the team.

The Keydets will also look for contributions from senior Josh Bass (five goals), junior Michael Santos (three goals), and sophomore defender Tim Lindenbaum.

Senior Bill Osteen, also named a team captain, will remain at goal after being named the SoCon Defensive Player of the Week against The Mount last season after he recorded a career-high 17 saves. He finished with 39 saves on the season.

James Purpura returned to VMI in July as head coach after a successful stint at Arcadia University the last two seasons. Purpura was the offensive coordinator and recruiting coordinator for the Keydets during the 2017 and 2018 seasons.
