Track and Field off to Good Start at High Point Meet

Day One Results

HIGH POINT, N.C. – On a cool and windy day, the VMI track and field teams opened the 2021 outdoor season with success Friday at the Bill Webb Combined Events / Bob Davidson Memorial hosted by High Point University in High Point, North Carolina.

Freshman Andrew Granger performed well in the hammer throw with a sixth-place distance of 50.48 meters.

Sophomore and new addition to the team Ty Wesenyak competed well in the javelin throw with a 12th-place distance of 45.74 meters.

"It was in the 40's most of the day, but as I told the team, worry about and control the things you have influence over....and the weather is not one of them," said VMI Director of Track and Field Darrin Webb. "We came out and did a good job in the handful of events we competed in today. I expect we will come out tomorrow and continue to get the outdoor season started on a positive note.

"Andrew Granger in the hammer and Ty Wesneyak in the javelin, both making their collegiate debut in outdoor track, both had very good starts to the outdoor season. Ty just came out for the team recently and Andrew getting to throw the hammer for the first time as a Keydet had very strong starts to the season."

Kevin Linko, Stephen Munson and Hunter Reed are competing in the decathlon and are currently in ninth, 10th, and 11th place, respectively.

Day two of the Bill Webb Combined Events / Bob Davidson Memorial resumes Saturday in High Point. Saturday's events will be broadcast on ESPN+.
