Keydets to Face #19 Richmond in Home Opener

LEXINGTON, Va. – The VMI lacrosse team will play its home opener against Southern Conference opponent #19 Richmond on Saturday at noon at Drill Field No. 2.

The Keydets (1-1, 0-0) are coming off a tough loss at Bellarmine after Ryan Perouty and Michael Santos led the team with three goals each. The match was the second consecutive game that two Keydets registered a hat trick.
 
Junior Trejan Cannon tallied four caused turnovers and seven groundballs. Sophomore goalie Anthony Merida had 15 saves in the match, and now has 21 on the season.
 
VMI is outshooting its opponents, 75-66, through two games.
 
About the Spiders (1-3, 0-0 SoCon)
Richmond is coming off a tough loss to #1 Duke on Sunday when senior Ryan Lanchbury had a hat trick and became only the third Spider to reach the 100-career goal mark for his career. Lanchbury was named SoCon Offensive Player of the Week for his efforts.
 
The Spiders' three losses have come from teams ranked in the top 10, with their win coming against Towson.
