Billy Parker Joins Football Staff as Running Backs Coach

LEXINGTON, Va. – VMI head football coach Scott Wachenheim has announced that Billy Parker has joined the staff as an assistant coach and will handle the running backs responsibilities.
Parker, who began his duties this week, replaces Anthony Davis who recently accepted a position at Western Kentucky.

Parker comes to VMI from South Carolina State where he coached tight ends the past year.

A former defensive back at William & Mary, Parker was a standout defensive back for the Tribe and was named First Team Atlantic 10 All-Conference in 2002 and 2003. After the completion of his college playing career, Parker played three seasons in the Arena Football League for the New York Dragons and earned All Arena, All Rookie, and Team MVP honors in 2005 and team MVP in 2007 as well as First Team All Arena in 2008.

Parker later played for the Montreal Alouettes of the Canadian Football League from 2009 through 2014 and was a part of two Grey Cup winning teams in 2009 and 2010. He was named a CFL Eastern Division All-Star in 2013 and served as a CFL player representative from 2012 through the 2014 seasons.

While with the Alouettes, Parker began his coaching career in the off season working with the Richmond Revolution and Richmond Raiders indoor football squads and served as defensive coordinator, secondary coach, and special teams coordinator during a span of three seasons. In 2017, he rejoined the Alouettes as defensive backs coach for two seasons before moving to the Tampa Bay Vipers of the XFL where he was a defensive backs assistant.

Parker holds a B.A. in Sociology from William & Mary.

"Coach Billy Parker has coached at the high school, college and professional levels," said head coach Scott Wachenheim. "He will coach our running backs, assist Coach Cosh in implementing our offensive system, and will play a vital role in our recruiting efforts. More importantly, Coach Parker will be an excellent mentor for our cadet-athletes."

Wachenheim also announced the changes of some staff responsibilities. Wide receivers coach Pat Ashford will now also serve as Recruiting Coordinator and defensive line coach Pat Kuntz will also hold Defensive Run Game Coordinator/Video Coordinator duties.
