Schull Ties Career Save Record but VMI Falls at Mercer

Box Score ATHENS, Ga. – VMI senior goalie Broden Schull made eight saves Saturday at Mercer University to tie the program record for career stops, but the Keydets fell 5-0 to the Bears in Southern Conference action.

Schull now has 384 career saves, tying the school record set by Brian Sowell (2007-10).

Mercer got on the board in the first 2:18 of the game on a goal from Dylan Gaither. Michael Ille and Gaither scored again before intermission and the Bears led 3-0 at halftime.

Trevor Martineau found the back of the net early in the second half, and Ille added another goal at 58:13 that ended the scoring for the day. Ousman Jabang added two assists.

Mercer (4-6-1/2-1-1) held a 19-3 edge in shots and had an 8-2 advantage in corner kicks.

VMI (1-11/0-4) is back in action on Tuesday, heading to Liberty University for a non-conference clash at 6 p.m.
