Keydets Finish Season in Tournament Loss to The Citadel

CHARLESTON, S.C. – The VMI women's soccer season came to an end in the opening round of the Southern Conference tournament as the host The Citadel Bulldogs earned a 4-1 victory over the Keydets Tuesday afternoon at WLI Field in Charleston, South Carolina.

The Bulldogs got on the board first in the 32nd minute (31:34) on a shot by Alex Madden to the lower left corner assisted by Ani Ford.The teams traded shots the remainder of the half but neither found the back of the net as The Citadel went into the break with a 1-0 advantage.

In the second half, the Bulldogs earned the game-winning goal in the 55th minute (54:15) on a shot by SoCon-leading scorer Suzuka Yosue into the lower right corner assisted by Jordynn Geller for a 2-0 Citadel lead. Moments later, VMI keeper Jillian Hall was given a yellow card on a Bulldog possession deep in VMI territory which led to a penalty kick conversion by Yosue for a 3-0 Bulldog advantage.

Following a Citadel goal in the 86th minute, the Keydets finished strong and avoided the shutout with a goal by senior Whitney Edwards-Roberson in the 87th minute (86:10). She took a forward pass from Anissa Cheikh and shot it from the top of the box into the lower left corner just out of the reach of The Citadel keeper's hands.

Edwards-Roberson finished the match with three shots for VMI while fellow senior Maria Vargas and freshman Lauren Fyfe finished with two apiece.

Geller led the Bulldogs with five shot attempts while Ford, Madden, and Yosue each tallied three.
