Box Score

LEXINGTON, Va. - Playing at Patchin Field for the final time in 2021, the VMI women's soccer team fell by a close 1-0 score to visiting ETSU Sunday afternoon in Lexington.

In a closely contested match that featured 11 ETSU shots to VMI's nine, the Bucs' Paige Carlsen found Momoko Horiuchi in the 64th minute (63:03) for the game-winning goals. The Bucs had penetrated the VMI defense when Carlsen found Horiuchi in the upper corner of the goal box. Horiuchi got a few steps in, then shot with her left foot into the upper left corner of the net and above VMI keeper Jillian Hall's outstretched hands for the game-winning goal.

The Keydets (3-15-1, 0-8-1) made a comeback effort to knot the score at one and came close later in the second half when a Maggie Beckman shot sailed just wide left of the net. Sophomore Hannah White also had a shot attempt nearly get past ETSU keeper Shu Ohba, who finished the game with five saves. Hall also finished with five saves for the Keydets.

White led VMI with four shot attempts throughout the match while Beckman and Whitney Edwards-Roberson both had two. Audrey Davis also earned one shot during the contest.

Horiuchi and Jocelyn Nehls led the Bucs with two shots apiece while seven others had one solo shot attempt.
