Keydets Defeated by Wofford on the Road

SPARTANBURG, S.C. – A late Wofford goal in the first half and two insurance goals in the second half lifted the host Wofford Terriers to a 3-0 victory over VMI Sunday afternoon at Gibbs Stadium in Spartanburg, South Carolina.

With just four minutes left before the half, Wofford's Meara Kelly found Leanna Guion for the game-winning goal as the ball found the right corner from inside the left portion of the box.

The Terriers quickly found the back of the net again in the second minute of the second half (46:14) when Mia Bookhard's cross turned into an unintentional shot and sailed above VMI keeper Jillian Hall's outstretched hands into the upper left corner of the net for a 2-0 Wofford lead.

Wofford's Sophia Hayag found Savannah Vathy later in the half (77:14) for a third Terrier goal as Vathy entered the box from the right after receiving the through ball and shot it into the lower left corner of the net for the game's final tally.

Despite the loss, the Keydets (3-13-1, 0-6-1) were not outshot by a large margin as the Keydets took seven shot attempts to Wofford's 12.

Senior Whitney Edwards-Roberson led the Keydets with three shots while freshman Riley Flanagan and senior Sarah Anschutz both registered a pair. Guion paced the Terriers with three shots on the day.

Hall earned six saves for VMI in the loss.

The Keydets return to Lexington next weekend for their final pair of home games when they take on Western Carolina Friday at 4 p.m. and ETSU Sunday at 2 p.m. at Patchin Field.
