LEXINGTON, Va. – The VMI-Princeton football game scheduled for September 19 at Foster Stadium has been cancelled.

The game was to be VMI's home season opener and the first of five dates scheduled this fall in Lexington.

Due to the COVID-19 pandemic, the Ivy League announced Wednesday that it will suspend all sports competition for its member institutions for the fall semester.  

"We certainly respect the Ivy League's decision as conferences across the country are monitoring the current conditions and planning for strategies to conduct all sports in a safe environment," said VMI Athletics Director Dr. Dave Diles. "We are considering all scheduling options for the September 19 date as the landscape continues to shift."

Tickets for VMI's four other home games against Southern Conference opponents remain on sale and can be purchased at VMItickets.com. Fans are encouraged to access the site and VMI Athletics social media for further scheduling and ticketing updates.

The Princeton game was to be VMI's first football contest against an Ivy League opponent since 1939 when the Keydets played Columbia. VMI is scheduled to face the Tigers in Princeton, N.J. in 2024 and Diles indicated that game will be revisited as future schedule planning takes place.
