LEXINGTON, Va. -
The VMI basketball team enters its busiest stretch of the 2020-21 season when it plays four games over the next eight days beginning with Tuesday afternoon's home date against Greensboro College in the Keydet Classic at 5 pm. Two days later, the Keydets begin their Southern Conference schedule by entertaining Mercer in a 7 pm tip at Cameron Hall. VMI closes out the homestand with a Sunday afternoon matchup with Hampton University in the Keydet Classic followed by a December 15 home game against Campbellsville-Harrodburg. All of VMI's next three non-conference opponents will be playing the Keydets for the first-time program history. VMI will be looking to bounce back after taking 16th ranked  Virginia Tech into the final minutes of regulation before falling 64-57 in Blacksburg, Virginia on December 3.

Last Time Out: Virginia Tech 84, VMI 77
Despite a second career double-double for senior forward Myles Lewis, the VMI basketball team came up a little short in its upset bid at No. 16 Virginia Tech with a 64-57 loss Thursday night at Cassell Coliseum. Lewis garnered a team-high 13 points and logged a season-high 12 rebounds to help VMI to the near upset as the Keydets led with under 10 minutes to play. Down 30-23 at the half, VMI roared back early in the second half with  13-0 run but eventually lost grip of momentum as the Hokies pulled away for the win. Three other Keydets finished the game in double figures as senior Greg Parham had 12 points, junior center Jake Stephens ended up with 11 and freshman guard Trey Bonham registered 10. The Keydets and Hokies battled to a 45-45 tie with seven minutes to play before Virginia Tech eventually grabbed an insurmountable 59-51 advantage with under two minutes left. Keve Aluma led Virginia Tech with 17 points on the night while Tyrece Radford poured in 13.

The VMI basketball team tied the score late in the contest, but fell just short Saturday as Mercer University defeated the Keydets 69-66 at Cameron Hall. The game was tight for the entire second half, and a Jake Stephens layup tied it at 61 all with just under two minutes left on the game clock. Kamar Robertson and Djordje Dimitijevic nailed clutch three pointers for the Bears to make it a six-point game and Dimitijevic sealed the win at the free-throw line. Myles Lewis scored a team-high 14 points, grabbed a season-high nine rebounds with two steals. Dimitijevic finished with 25 points, five three pointers and six rebounds for the visitors.

VMI hit 18 three-pointers against Samford in the opening round of the SoCon tournament March 6 and for the season connected on 359 threes – third most on the school all-time list.
