Lacrosse Completes 2019 Season in Loss at Furman

GREENVILLE, S.C. - Looking to finish the season strong with a win over Southern Conference opponent Furman, the VMI lacrosse team fell by a 20-6 score Saturday afternoon in Greenville, South Carolina.

Down just 2-1 midway through the opening period, the Keydets (4-9, 0-7) allowed six unanswered goals by the Paladins that yielded an 8-1 advantage for the home team. VMI's Ryan Perouty scored with three seconds before the end of the quarter, but the damage had been done as Furman used the rally to propel itself to victory.

VMI scored twice in the second quarter and allowed only one Furman goal during the period to go into the break with a manageable deficit of 9-4 with one half to play. However, the Paladins caught fire again in the second half and outscored VMI 5-2 in the third quarter and logged six more unanswered goals in the fourth quarter for the game's final result of 20-6.

Six different Keydets scored solo goals throughout the game including Perouty, Jon Fant, John O'Donnell, John Daniel, Trejan Cannon and Donald Proper. O'Donnell, Joshua Bass, and Timothy Barilie were credited with assists in the game.

Jarrett Birch and William Holcomb both netted four goals to lead Furman to victory.
