Keydets Top W&L in Lee-Jackson Lacrosse Classic

LEXINGTON, Va. – After an excellent fall season of practice and conditioning, the VMI lacrosse team defeated rival Washington & Lee by a 14-9 score in the 33rd Annual Lee-Jackson Lacrosse Classic held Friday night at W&L's Wilson Stadium.

The win snapped a nine-game losing skid to the Generals as VMI last came out victorious in 2009 when the Keydets earned a 15-13 at the same Wilson Stadium.

VMI led by a 2-1 score after the first quarter before the Generals rallied with five goals in the second period to VMI's four to knot the score at six apiece heading into intermission. VMI put in four to W&L's two in the third period before the Keydets put down the hammer in the final quarter by scoring four goals and allowing just one.

Senior Johnny Daniel and sophomores Aidan Riley and Michael Santos paced the Keydets with three goals apiece while junior attacker Ryan Perouty logged two. Juniors Jon Fant and Josh Bass each had one goal while freshman Scout Ripley added another. Daniel tallied a game-high 11 shots in the outing.

In a complete game in the circle, VMI keeper Bill Osteen earned 10 saves to help preserve VMI's win.
